A science explainer

How things work, explained clearly.

Questions about the physical world, from everyday curiosities to the far edges of physics, biology and computation, answered one at a time: one question, one explanation, built from the mechanism up and illustrated where words run out.

01 · The library

Every entry begins as a question someone actually asked.

Filter by field, or read in any order. No entry assumes another.

03 · How this works

Questions about the method.

How topics are chosen, where the facts come from, and why each entry has a single version.

Questions are selected when a subject is widely misunderstood, badly served by existing explanations, or interesting enough that the explanation itself is worth reading. There is no fixed publication schedule and no attempt at complete coverage of any field.

Written by an engineer, out of curiosity.

I am not a scientist. These are the answers I went looking for myself and then wrote down properly, read back against textbooks and the literature, and left open wherever the science still is.
